Former Sri Lanka coach Graham Ford is set to replace John Bracewell as Ireland s head coach. Bracewell s contract will come to an end in December after Ireland cricket decided not to hand an extension. Ford has signed a three-year deal with Cricket Ireland.

A former South Africa First-Class player, Ford has coached a few big guns in the past, namely Sri Lanka and South Africa. He also coached domestic teams such as Natal in South Africa, and Surrey and Kent in English county. His two terms as Sri Lanka coach came in 2012-14 and 2016 2017 (was to continue till 2019).

Speaking about his new appointment, Ford was quoted by ESPNCricinfo, saying, “I am really excited to be a part of this new era in Irish cricket. I have always enjoyed working with decent people and, in their attitude, character and camaraderie, the Irish cricketers have always come across as such.

With my knowledge and experience I believe I can genuinely make a difference. All my efforts will be dedicated to assisting the players to improve and achieve their full potential while playing an enjoyable brand of cricket.
