Coming out to be a great shock to Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), top order batter Devdutt Padikkal has been ruled out of the remainder of the 2025 season because of a hamstring injury. The franchise has even named a replacement for the star batter.

Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) has been given a massive setback as their star batter Devdutt Padikkal has been ruled out of the rest of the tournament due to an injury. The Bengaluru-based franchise has announced Mayank Agarwal as the replacement of the injured Devdutt. This change in the players has come in ahead of RCB’s clash against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), which is set to be held on May 9 at the Ekana Cricket Stadium.
A statement was released by IPL, which stated that RCB has signed Mayank Agarwal as a replacement of Devdutt Padikkal. The statement also revealed that Devdutt got ruled out because of a hamstring injury on his right leg, and that Mayank Agarwal was signed by the franchise for Rs. 1 crore.
“Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have signed Mayank Agarwal as an injury replacement for Devdutt Padikkal for the remainder of TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.Devdutt Padikkal, who played 10 matches for RCB this season and scored 247 runs with the help of two half-centuries, sustained an injury to his right hamstring.Mayank Agarwal has played 127 IPL matches so far, scoring 2661 runs. He has 1 IPL hundred and 13 fifties against his name.He joins RCB for INR 1 Crore,” IPL’s statement read.
The statement also revealed that Mayank Agarwal joining the team is going to bring in tremendous amount of experience, as he has played a total of 127 matches in IPL and scored 2661 runs throughout his career in the tournament.

Mayank Agarwal marked the start of his IPL journey with RCB itself, and he has played for different teams since then. His last appearance was in IPL 2024, where he played for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Mayank had quite a disappointing run playing for them, scoring just 64 runs in four outings for the team.
