Faf du Plessis reached his first half-century of this year’s IPL against Gujarat Lions at Rajkot. Du Plessis reached the milestone in 33 deliveries, and his knock meant his side were comfortably placed 111/1 after 13 overs. The Rising Pune Supegiants team lost the only wicket of Ajinkya Rahane for 21, before Kevin Peitersen and du Plessis controlled the proceedings. Earlier, Rising Pune Supergiants won the toss, deciding to bat first. Gujarat Lions got their IPL campaign off to a wonderful start, beating Kings XI Punjab convincingly at Mohali in their first game. Their bowling was starred by ‘Champion’ Dwayne Bravo, who took a 4 for 22 which ensured Kings XI got only 161. In their reply, Aaron Finch played a brilliant knock of 74 for his side, which laid the platform for his team’s win. A calm 41* by Dinesh Karthik meant despite Finch getting out, Lions won the game convincingly.

Rising Pune Supergiants also had a winning start to their IPL career, destroying the Mumbai Indians at Wankhede. Choosing to bat, Mumbai Indians had a horror show at home, struggling to score runs and losing wickets. Only a late flourish by Harbhajan Singh meant they reached 121 after their 20 overs. In their reply, RPS got off to brilliant start, scoring 51 runs in the powerplay overs. Despite losing Faf du Plessis, RPS did not lose momentum as Ajinkya Rahane and Kevin Pietersen stood tall and won the game for their side.
