Gujarat ended Day One of the Irani Cup 2016-17 at Mumbai’s Brabourne Stadium on 300 for 8. However, the title holders of Ranji Trophy 2016-17 will look to add more runs in the first session of Day Two, so that their bowlers get enough runs to put the Rest of India (ROI) batsmen on the back foot.
ROI had a staggering start as Pankaj Singh trapped Samit Gohil, who had recently scored a triple-ton, in front for a duck. Nonetheless, Priyank Panchal and Dhruv Raval added 55 for the second wicket, before Pankaj got the better of him, producing an outside edge to Karun Nair at first-slip. Siddharth Kaul soon dismissed Raval and skipper Parthiv Patel in quick succession to reduce Gujarat to 82 for 4. All the same, Chirag Gandhi came to Gujarat’s rescue and scored his maiden First-Class hundred. He added 109 runs for the fifth wicket with Manprit Juneja (47).
Gandhi stayed unbeaten on 136 off 159, including 18 fours and a six. But Gujarat have only 2 wickets remaining, leaving very little time for Gandhi to add more runs to the scoreboard.
While Pankaj took 3 wickets, pick of the bowlers was Kaul for his 4 for 73.
