Snapshots of Gurunath Meiyappan’s Twitter bio
Mumbai: May 24, 2013
Gurunath Meiyappan, son-in-law of BCCI president N Srinivasan and alleged suspect by Mumbai Police in connection to betting in the Indian Premier League (IPL), on Friday edited his bio on micro-blogging site Twitter after Srinivasan’s India Cements released a statement saying Meiyappan is neither owner nor Team Principal/CEO of Chennai Super Kings.
The previous bio on his official Twitter id read: ‘Team Principal Chennai Super Kings’. At around 5:30 pm, his association to Chennai Super Kings was removed from the bio.
The issue of Meiyappan’s position came under scrutiny as the rulebook of Indian Premier League (IPL) states that, the franchisee can be terminated if the owner acts in any way that has an adverse effect on the IPL’s reputation. If Mumbai Police arrests Meiyappan, the CSK franchisee could stand the risk of being terminated.
Earlier, India Cements, owner of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) franchisee had issued a statement quoting T.S. Raghupathy, Executive President, India Cements Ltd. saying, “Gurunath is only one of the members (Honorary) of the management Team of Chennai Super Kings.”
“India Cements follows zero tolerance policy and if anyone is proved guilty, strict action will be taken immediately. India Cements assures full co-operation with BCCI and the law enforcement authorities,” news agency ANI reported the statement issued by India Cements.
