Barbados Tridents were handed a defeat by 6 wickets at the hands of Guyana Amazon Warriors in the 25th match of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2016. A fine bowling performance followed by an important opening stand between Dwayne Smith and Nic Maddinson steered the Warriors to victory. A couple of run-out opportunities did emerge for Barbados early on in the chase but they failed to grab them and the game was over with 10 balls to spare. The win takes the Guyana Amazon Warriors to the play-offs of this CPL edition but for Barbados, they will have to count on other results to go their way, if they wish to stay alive in this competition. Earlier Barbados Tridents were asked to bat first and were off to a decent start. Ahmed Shehzad was the first wicket to fall for them. David Wiese and Shoaib Malik did play valuable knocks, the latter even scoring an unbeaten half-century but loss of wickets in succession near the 100-run mark meant Barbados couldn’t go all guns blazing in the tie. Captain Kieron Pollard was out for a duck, and the lower order could not do much along with Malik at the other end. They finished at 142-7 in their 20 overs.

Sohail Tanvir and Rayad Emrit took 2 wickets each for the Warriors. Adam Zampa, Christopher Barnwell and Steven Jacobs got one each to finish a brilliant bowling display, although the pitch looked difficult to score on in the first innings.

Smith and Maddinson raced on to a 92-run first wicket parnership which took the game away from Barbados Tridents. Although there were quick dismissals as Warriors neared the target, the game had already become one-sided. Barnwell and Tanvir made sure Warriors cross the line with ease.

Brief Scores:

Barbados Tridents 142 for 7 in 20 Overs ( Shoaib Malik 55*, David Wiese 40; Rayad Emrit 2 for 24, Sohail Tanvir 2 for 35) lost to Guyana Amazon Warriors 143 for 4 in 18.2 Overs (Dwayne Smith 50, Nic Maddinson 50; Raymon Reifer 2 for 22, Imran Khan 1 for 21) by 6 wickets
