Aamer Sohail can be considered one of the most aggressive Pakistan‘s opener in the history. Sohail was a member of Pakistan’s only World Cup triumph in 1992. He formed one of the best opening pair with former Pakistan opener Saeed Anwar. Sohail had a great run in ICC World Cup 1992, the only instance Pakistan became World Champions in ODI. The 50-year-old scored 326 runs in 10 ODIs which proved to be crucial in his side winning the tournament, he along with Anwar provided feisty starts and gave his side the momentum they needed to win the game. Sohail’s international career spanned almost 10 years. He made his debut in December, 1990 and played his last game in February, 2000. ALSO READ: Video: Venkatesh Prasad gives Aamir Sohail a dose of his own medicine

Sohail has played 47 Tests and 156 ODIs scoring 2,823 and 4,780 runs respectively. Sohail has five centuries in both formats. Although, Sohail’s strike-rate of 65.50 does not approve of his aggressiveness but the day he got going boundaries came quite frequently than other days. Sohail contributed with his left-arm spin too getting 25 and 85 wickets in Tests and ODIs respectively. He was considered more of an ODI bowler chipping in with a few overs and breaking partnerships at crucial stages.

However, the most embarrassing moment of his career can be considered as the clash against India in ICC World Cup 1996. He was in full flow hitting boundaries after boundaries as they needed 288 to win. Sohail completed his half-century. After hitting a four he had a few unpleasant exchanges with India’s then frontline bowler Venkatesh Prasad. Prasad knocked his wickets over on the very next ball, celebrating his win over Sohail in an animated manner. Sohail was always in news for his exchanges on the field. However, Pakistan need someone like Sohail in the limited overs format to take them higher in the rankings.
