Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is likely to appoint former Chief Selector Haroon Rasheed as the new Director of Cricket Operations at the end of June. Rasheed was discharged from his position when PCB dissolved the selection committee after Pakistan performed poorly in the Asia Cup 2016 and the ICC T20 World Cup that took place in India subsequently. He has worked as chief selector, coach, manager and Director game development in the past. A PCB official said that Rasheed is a top candidate for the post as he is preferred by many others in the board. Although, the board had given an advertisement for the job position and an experience of 10 years of is mandatory for the position, Rasheed fulfills the criteria. The PCB official said “Haroon meets all the conditions that are required for the position,” he said adding he himself is also very eager to get a role again in the board,” as quoted by APP.
He also stated that Rasheed’s name came up in a meeting when the question of appointment of Director of Cricket Operations came up. He said – “Majority of the members want Haroon to be named as the new Director Cricket operations.”
The PCB has made a number of appointments recently. Former Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq was made one of the Chief selectors. His appointment was followed by Mickey Arthur being named the Pakistan team coach and Mudassar Nazar becoming the director of academies. It looks like, 63-year old Rasheed’s return to the PCB is also on the cards.
