Teen sensation Haseeb Hameed on Tuesday became the youngest Lancashire cricketer to score 1,000 runs in the County Championship in a season. Hameed, at 19 years and 242 days, bettered Michael Atherton’s record, who was 21 years when he achieved this feat. Hameed is also the youngest Lancashire batsmen to score two centuries in a single match. He achieved this feat during the County Championship match against Yorkshire. He scored 114 in the first innings and remained unbeaten on exactly 100 in the second. Lancashire are totally in control of the match and have set Yorkshire a target of 367 to chase.
Haseeb also scored 89 and 57 not out in the previous match against Hampshire at Southampton to help his side save the match. Haseeb made his First-Class debut against Glamorgan at Manchester in 2015. Hameed scored 28 on his debut innings as the teams played out a draw.
Former England captain Atherton represented his nation in 115 Tests and scored 7728 runs at 37.69 spanning between 1989 to 2001. He had 16 tons and 46 fifties to his name. He was also a handy leg-break bowler, picking up 108 First-Class wickets, which include a couple of Test scalps as well. Atherton also played for England in 54 One-Day Internationals (ODI), scoring 1791 runs at 35.11.
Milestone: Haseeb reaches 1000 runs for the season in County Championship matches https://t.co/6NWv3wzYQz

TRENDING NOW
Hameed like Atherton is a part-time leg-break bowler, but has not had many opportunities to bowl in the County Championships. He will hope that he carries on playing like this and sooner, rather than later gets a call-up for England as well.
