South Africa got off to a good start on day four of the third Test as they reached 216 for 4 at the end of first session on Sunday at Lord’s.
Hashim Amla remained unbeaten on 94. While going for lunch, Amla had AB de Villiers for company who was unbeaten on 24.
Stuart Broad dismissed Dale Steyn early in the day for nine runs. Amla and de Villiers stroked an unbeaten 50-runs partnership from there to guide South Africa to safety.
Hashim Amla’s half century took South Africa to 145 for three at the end of day three.
Earlier, Alviro Petersen and Graeme Smith denied England an early breakthrough as they took South Africa to 33 without loss in their second innings at tea.
Petersen was 20 not out and Proteas captain Smith 13 not out, with the tourists now 27 runs in front.
However, England got both the openers out early in the final session of the day. Amla along with Jacques Kallis stitched an 81-run partnership for the third wicket.
Brief Scores: South Africa 309 & 216 for 4 (Hashim Amla 94*, Jacques Kallis 31; Stuart Broad 2 for 55) lead England 315 (Jonny Bairstow 95, Ian Bell 58; Morne Morkel 4 for 80, Dale Steyn 4 for 94) by 210 runs
