Hashim Amla finally played up to his potential when he scored an excellent 96 off 56 and powered Kings XI Punjab to 179 for 4 in Match 46 of IPL 2016. Sunrisers who are the table-toppers at present with 14 points in 11 matches are just one win away from sealing a place in the final four of IPL 2016. Towards the end, it was David Miller whose fireworks of nine-ball 20 ensured Punjab put up a competitive total. His innings included two fours and a six with Glenn Maxwell, who on the non-striker’s end did not face a single ball.  Sunrisers’ go to bowler this season, Mustafizur Rahman happened to be expensive in today’s fixture giving 32 runs in 4 overs despite bagging the crucial wicket of Murali Vijay. Live Cricket Scorecard: Kings XI Punjab vs Sunrisers Hyderabad, IPL 2016 Match 47 at Mohali

It was Rahman made an early breakthrough for the visitors. The other wickets were shared between Moises Henriques and Bhuveneshwar Kumar. Punjab skipper Murali Vijay was the first batsman to walk back to the dugout after he was dismissed by Mustafizur Rahman in the 5th over. He became Rahman’s 50th wicket in Twenty20 (T20) format. Meanwhile it was Rahman’s 14th scalp in this ninth edition of IPL as the Bangladeshi bowler stands third on the most-wickets table of IPL 2016. The likes of Mitchell McClenaghan and Andre Russell are ahead of him with 17 and 15 wickets each so far in IPL 2016.

Vijay was out cheaply for a 12-ball 6 in the fifth over without opening his account of a boundary. The slower ball did the trick for Rahman. Vijay just flicked it as he got an inside edge that flew into the safe hands of David Warner at the mid-off, leaving Punjab at 33 for 1. Moises Henriques drew second blood for Hyderabad when he removed the wicketkeeper-batsman on the first delivery of the 12th over. Saha played a pull which was caught by Deepak Hooda. The latter made no mistake while running from deep mid-wicket and completed a successful catch to leave Punjab at 87 for 2 in 11.1 overs.

Gurkeerat Singh continued his poor run in this ninth edition of IPL when he lasted only for 20 balls scoring 27 runs. This happened to be his highest score in the four games he has played so far in this IPL 2016. His previous scores were of 0 and 11 and he did not bat in the fixture against Delhi Daredevils.

Earlier, Punjab won the toss and elected to bat first. Bhuvneshwar Kumar opened the bowling for Sunrisers Hyderabad. He bowled a tight first over giving just seven runs. Ashish Nehra, who bowled next was expensive in his first over. Hashim Amla hit three boundaries in that over, and took his tally to four fours as he had hit one in the first over as well.

Brief scores:

Kings XI Punjab 179 for 4 (Hashim Amla 96, Gurkeerat Singh 27; Bhuveneshwar Kumar 2 for 32) vs Sunrisers Hyderabad
