Varun Chakravarthy was a last minute addition to the Indian squad, with opener Yashasvi Jaiswal making way for the spinner. Varun got this opportunity following his spectacular show in T20 format. During a press conference, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma was questioned about the spinner being included, to which Rohit replied by saying he was picked for a reason.
“He doesn’t throw many variations in the net. He throws the ball in the same way. Maybe he doesn’t even want to show us what he has. But that is a good thing. He has got a certain weapon that he wants to put out there when it actually matters,” Rohit said.
“I am more than happy if he wants to do that. But he has got something different which is why he is here with us. Whatever we have seen of him in the last 8-9 months, it has been very impressive,” he added.
Indian team will play against Bangladesh as their opening clash of Champions Trophy campaign. The match is going to be held at the Dubai International Stadium in UAE, beginning 2:30 PM IST.
