Royal Challengers Bengaluru is just one step away from winning the Indian Premier League 2025 trophy. Following a convincing win over Punjab Kings in Qualifier 1, RCB have shown what their opponents can anticipate in the final.
While the team’s passionate fans are hopeful for the title, England legends like Nasser Hussain and Michael Atherton are concerned that RCB mentor Dinesh Karthik might become ‘unbearable’ if the team finally wins its first IPL trophy after 17 years.
Karthik, who previously worked as a cricket analyst for various platforms before being appointed as RCB’s mentor ahead of the IPL 2025 season, is close to achieving something no other coach has done with the franchise. In his debut season as part of an IPL team’s support staff, he is just one victory away from guiding RCB to their long-awaited IPL title.
“RCB have got through to the finals. If they win that, DK is going to be unbearable. One season as coach/mentor and he’s won it,” Hussain jokingly said during a Sky Sports Podcast. “He’s unbearable at the best of times, he’s going to be doubly unbearable. He’ll be like John Terry, at the front of the RCB trophy presentation holding it there with Virat Kohli” Michael Atherton said.
Karthik has played more than just a supportive role in the dressing room; he has also taken on a leadership role on the field, frequently giving instructions from beyond the boundary line for RCB.
“Being part of RCB is a very special feeling. Purely because of the brand of cricket that we play, but also the fans that we have. And most importantly, it’s a journey that’s been filled with lots of highs and lows. But the trophy hadn’t reached the shores of Bangalore yet.” said Karthik on his role

“If I could be part of that journey, why not? That was a big question in my mind. I know how close we were when I played. So here’s another opportunity for me as a coach,” Karthi added
