India vice-captain Shubman Gill has cleared fans’ fears regarding Virat Kohli’s fitness and has said that the batter should be completely fit for the second ODI between India and England which will be held in Cuttack on Sunday.
Kohli missed the series opener in Nagpur due to swelling in his right knee. He was even seen talking with his knee tightly strapped.
Gill played a match-winning knock of 87 runs from 96 deliveries to massively help India secure an easy 4-wicket victory over The Three Lions in the first ODI.
“It’s nothing serious. He (Kohli) was fine during yesterday’s (Wednesday) practice, but he woke up with some swelling in his knee this morning (Thursday). He’ll definitely be back for the second ODI,” Gill said ahead of the second ODI.
The batter also remarked that he wasn’t thinking about his century when he played an aggressive shot against Saqib Mahmood which was eventually caught by Jos Buttler.

“No, I wasn’t thinking about my century. I was focused on the field placements and played my shots accordingly. I wanted to dominate the bowler, and I would have played the same shot even if I was in my 60s,” Gill said.
