Shimla: Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh today said that he had never said that cricket was game of betting. “What I said was that due to betting the game of cricket has got a bad name and no one should be involved in betting”, he told reporters at Mandi. Singh claimed that the statement given by him in this regards, a few days back was distorted by media. When asked whether the state government would provide land for the National level Cricket Academy, the Chief Minister said that “let the proposal come to the government and thereafter we will think about it.”
Singh during the ICC T20 World Cup was much in news for his saying that his government has not asked for security from the Centre for the India-Pakistan T20 World Cup match which was slated to be held on March 19 in Dharamsala. He, however, said the ruling dispensation at the Centre can send the paramilitary forces if they want to. He also insisted that if the ex-servicemen protest against the match then the state police would not initiate any action against them.

Earlier, Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association had asked Himachal Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh to order a CBI investigation against Rohru Cricket Association, controlled by the CM’s son, for alleged irregularities. This association in Shimla district belongs to Vir Bhadra Singh’s son. Sanjay Sharma, Public Relation Officer at HPCA, alleged that the CM’s son took control of Rohru Cricket Association, converted it into an NGO, and earned crores from the government by organising cricket tournaments.
