Visakhapatnam: Talented Delhi‘s Himmat Singh played a captains knock to help North Zone outplay East Zone by 38 runs in the All India Vinoo Mankad Under-19 tournament at the Vizzy Stadium on Visakhapatnam on Thursday.
Electing to bat, North lost four early wickets only to be lifted by Himmat, whose 97-ball innings was lace with 11 fours and 2 sixes, Rajesh Sharma (87) and Sarthak Ranjan (50) to reach 333 all out in 48 overs. Himmat and Rajesh stitched a 121-run fifth wicket partnership to provide a solid platform for the upcoming batsmen.
East Zone made brave work of their chase but only managed 295 all out in 47.5 overs. Virat Singh (81), Ishan Singh (64) and Sumit Kumar 61 tried hard for the East side but North left-arm spinner Mayank Dagar (4-52) never allowed the opposition to break free with his regular wicket-taking. AR Rana (3-44) and Kunwar Bhiduri (2-29) also contributed with regular scalps.
