Ben Hilfenhaus, the Australia and Hobart Hurricanes pacer, used his skills to devastating effect in the Champions League T20 (CLT20) 2014 match against Northern Knights on Tuesday. He notched up three wickets against the Knights as the Hurricanes triumphed by 86 runs.
The Knights were at his mercy as he had their top-order back in the pavilion in the first seven overs of their chase. The Aussie pacer put forth that the conditions were good for fast-bowling and he liked bowling in India, reported the Official Champions League T20 website.
Hilfenhaus said, “ It is not a bad place to bowl. It was obviously moving around a little bit which was beneficial for the fast bowlers.”
This game was a very crucial one for the Hobart Hurricanes and Hilfenhaus seemed more than pleased that his side had triumphed. “ Yes, it was a big win for us. I think if we had lost tonight we might as well have got on the plane to go back home. We knew we had to win and to win the way we did was absolute class,” the pacer added.
Picking up the all-important wickets of the in-form Kane Williamson, Daniel Flynn and BJ Watling for scores of 3, 0 and 9 respectively must have given him immense satisfaction.
Hilfenhaus said, “Yes, we knew we needed those blokes early because they have made the bulk of the runs in their games so far. For us to get them as cheaply as we did tonight was obviously a big bonus for us.” He further added, “Talking about Kane Williamson’s dismissal, I think we did not have a plan to bounce him out. It was just a length ball that stuck in the wicket. In that sort of a wicket you just got to build pressure and wait for the batsman to make a mistake.”
