India will take on Australia in their final game of Super 8 at the Darren Sammy National Cricket Stadium, Gros Islet, St. Lucia on June 22. India has been phenomenal so far and apart from South Arfica, are the only team to yet lose a match. India is expected to be at to-of-the-table to finish the Super 8. The winner of this group will face the runners up of second group in the semifinal.
For India to finish at the top, they need to beat Australia. This is the simple formula for them. However, in India gets defeated by Australia, they will be tied on points with them. If Afghanistan beats Bangladesh, Rashid Khan-led side will also reach out for points, concluding with a three way tie. Then the top 2 teams with the highest run rate will qualify for semifinal.
Even if they lose to Australia, India can finish at the top of the table, but there are certain equations for that. To stay at the top, India should not lose to Australia by 40+ runs or 31+ balls. If they manage to do so, they will stay above Australia in run rate which will confirm their place in T20 World Cup semifinal.
Although, rain can destroy the India vs Australia match in St Lucia. If the match gets washed out, India will simply qualify for the semifinal. They will also reach 5 points and confirm their position as the table-toppers. The 2nd qualifier will depend on Afghanistan vs Bangladesh match outcome. If Afghanistan wins the match, They will go through into the semifinals.
