Chennai Super Kings skipper MS Dhoni took the blame after his team lost by just 2 runs against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in the ongoing IPL 2025.
CSK fell short of what would have been their highest successful run chase in IPL history. Dhoni scored 12 runs off 8 deliveries and was dismissed in the final over, as CSK faced yet another defeat this season despite an impressive knock from youngster Ayush Mhatre, who scored 94 off 48 balls.
“When I went into bat, with the kind of deliveries and the runs needed, I felt I should’ve converted a couple more shots to ease the pressure. I take the blame,” Dhoni said during the post-match presentation.
RCB posted a total of 213 runs on the board, thanks to an unbeaten knock by West Indies all-rounder Romario Shepherd, who scored a brilliant 53 off just 14 balls, helping RCB reach the massive total. Virat Kohli and Jacob Bethell also contributed with scores of 62 (33) and 55 (33) respectively.
CSK looked in good touch while chasing the target, with Ayush Mhatre’s 94 (48) and Ravindra Jadeja’s unbeaten 77, but they were unable to guide CSK to victory.
However, in the final over against Yash Dayal, Dhoni couldn’t finish the job and was dismissed LBW with CSK still needing 13 runs from the last three balls.CSK got a chance when Dayal bowled a waist-high no-ball, and Shivam Dube hit a six off the first delivery. However, with six runs needed from three balls, Dayal kept his composure and secured a two-run victory for RCB.
