His selection in the Indian team may have raised quite a few eyebrows but Wriddhiman Saha is hardly bothered by what sceptics think about him.

 

After his match-winning 46 against Kochi Tuskers Kerala, the Bengal glovesman said that he was never under any kind of pressure having replaced Shrikant Aniruddha who has played a few useful knocks this year.

 

“I was never under any kind of pressure. Any given situation suits me fine. My job is to go out there and perform for the team,” Wriddhiman told the reporters at the post-match conference.

 

For someone who is considered to be the best wicketkeeper in terms of technique, Wriddhiman is at ease fielding in the deep.

 

“When your captain is the main ‘keeper you have to be ready to field at any position. I am enjoying my fielding.”

 

He was instructed by coach Stephen Fleming that he may be promoted up the order in case the team lost quick wickets.

 

“The coach told me that I will bat at No.5 today. My idea was to initially rotate the strike and then go for the big shots after getting set as the wicket was on the slower side.”

 

He agreed that doing well in a big platform like IPL will boost his confidence ahead of the tour of West Indies.

 

Wriddhiman has always been known to be grafter but he he disagrees with the popular notion that grafters can’t play T20.

 

“In today’s era, everyone needs to now the art of playing T20. If you have the talent, you can succeed in any format be it Test cricket or Twenty20.” 

 

Having not kept wickets for considerable period of time, is there a chance that he might feel a bit rusty while boarding the flight to Caribbean, he answered, “I always practise hard and so being rusty is out of question.”
