The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to suspend the Indian Premier League (IPL) amid the growing tensions between India-Pakistan.
The decision was reportedly made following concerns raised by both IPL franchises and foreign players. Although no official announcement has been made about the tournament’s future, sources within the IPL revealed that a meeting is expected within a week to discuss potential new venues and reschedule the competition.
The former England skipper questioned whether there is a possibility of rescheduling the remainder of the IPL 2025 in the United Kingdom, citing the country’s well-established infrastructure. He also suggested that Indian players could remain there for the upcoming series against England.
“I wonder if it’s possible to finish the IPL in the UK .. We have all the venues and the Indian players can then stay on for the Test series .. Just a thought ?” he posted on X (formerly Twitter).

The BCCI made the decision on Friday following across-border tensions late Thursday night, which resulted in blackouts across Jammu, Udhampur, and Pathankot as Pakistani airstrikes and drones dominated the skies. The situation forced the suspension of the match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala after only 10.1 overs of the first innings.

As airports in Dharamshala and other northern cities were shut down, players and support staff from both PBKS and DC, along with match officials, commentators, broadcast crew, and other key IPL personnel, were evacuated from Dharamshala on Friday morning. They were transported by bus to Jalandhar, where a special train arranged by the tournament is now taking them to New Delhi.
