The ICC has directed all its member boards to refrain from making any comments on the conviction of Pakistani cricketers Salman Butt and Mohammed Asif on the spot-fixing charges, a PCB source claimed.
When asked why the PCB has not issued an official reaction to the guilty verdict passed by a 12-member jury at the Southwark crown court, the source said the PCB would give its reaction only after ICC issues an official statement.
“The ICC has told all member boards not to comment on the issue and wait for the judge to pass the sentence even though the jury has given a guilty verdict,” the source told PTI.
The jury at the Southwark crown court on Tuesday found Butt and Asif guilty of fixing part of a Test match against England and the judge is expected to read out the sentences on Wednesday or Thursday when Mohammad Aamir and alleged bookie Mazhar Majeed will appear in court.
The source said the PCB would react after the judge gave his decision and the ICC issued its statement.
But he admitted that after the guilty verdict was announced there was gloom and sadness in the cricket board and the new Chairman Zaka Ashraf had also been upset after the announcement.
“Everyone is sad that Pakistan cricket today is facing such an embarrassing situation,” he said.
