West Indies posted a total of 297 runs for the loss of six wickets against Sri Lanka in their warm-up tie at Birmingham on Tuesday.
Skipper Angelo Mathews won the toss and chose to bowl. The Caribbean openers Chris Gayle and Johnson Charles took little time to get into action with an 87-run first wicket partnership in just 12 overs. Gayle though was subdued while Charles played the role of aggressor.
Gayle was dismissed by Thisara Perera for 22. Charles too fell in the next over for Shaminda Eranga scoring 58 runs which consisted of nine hits to the fence. Marlon Samuels was dismissed for 18 runs by Tillakaratne Dilshan. At 122 for three, Ramnaresh Sarwan and Darren Bravo stitched a valuable partnership to take West Indies to a respectable total. Sarwan (55) and Bravo (71) both left the field retired hurt to allow the other batsmen to spend some time at the crease.
While the rest of the batsmen couldn’t score much in the handful of overs left, Kieron Pollard’s 29 off 21 balls took them to the eventual total.
Both Sri Lanka and West Indies are playing at the back of a defeats against India and Australia respectively in their previous warm-up match.
Brief scores:
West Indies 297 for 6 in 50 overs (Darren Bravo 71 retired out, Johnson Charles 58) vs Sri Lanka
