Perth: Mohammed Shami, the India fast bowler, will not be available for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 clash against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) at the WACA, Perth on Saturday. Shami had an ultrasound guided injection on Thursday and had visited the hospital with physio Nitin Patel. This was because of a problem in his left knee. He has thus been kept out of the UAE game. In an email from Dr RN Baba, the India media manager, the team think-tank confirmed that Shami will not play the UAE game as a precaution. The email read as follows: “Mohammed Shami got mild left knee problem and had ultrasound guided injection yesterday for his long term management perspective he won’t be available for tomorrow match against UAE. Keeping Shami out has more to do with the long term perspective for India in this tournament. Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s fitness has also been a problem for India after they had lost Ishant Sharma, who was a part of the initial World Cup squad. With Shami out, there could be a possibility of Bhuvneshwar coming back, or perhaps a Stuart Binny could get a game. Top 10 batsmen in ICC Cricket World Cup 2015
India have to manage their players well and make sure that they remain fit for the main matches ahead. They have already started the ICC World Cup 2015 well by beating Pakistan and South Africa. They will now face the UAE on Saturday, before taking on the West Indies on March 6. India will then fly down to New Zealand for their last two group games.
