The ICC Women’s World T20 2016 will be contested by a total of 10 teams. Unlike the men’s tournament, the women’s tournament did not have a pre-qualifying stage. In this post you will find an updated list of leading run-scorers as the matches happen. The first match of this tournament took place on March 15 at Bangalore, between the hosting India women and their Bangladesh counterparts. Later on the same day, the New Zealand women took on Sri Lankan women. The tournament will see some of the top female cricketers participate and the battle for the top spot in the batting list.
The ten participating teams include: India Women, New Zealand Women, Bangladesh Women, Ireland Women, Australia Women, Pakistan Women, South Africa Women, England Women, Sri Lanka Women and West Indies Women. Most of these teams have contenders to claim the top batting honours.
Since the tournament will be played in India, one can expect plenty of flat batting wickets. When the wickets are not turning viciously, the wickets in India are mostly very nice surfaces to bat on. The eves from various teams will look to cash in on that aspect. Some of the contenders for the spot include names like Mithali Raj, Suzie Bates and Charlotte Edwards among others.
Indian women have the home advantage and it is safe to assume a few names on the top 10 table spot will be occupied by them. The competition will be cutthroat however. Women’s cricket has become increasingly competitive and that level of competitiveness has spilled over into independent facets.
