Hambantota: Sep 22, 2012

South Africa scored 78 for four in seven overs against Sri Lanka in the rain truncated Group C match in the ICC T20 World Cup at Hambantota on Saturday.

Bowlers provided early breakthrough to Sri Lanka with two quick wickets in the first three overs.

Nuwan Kulasekara dismissed Richard Levi, while Hashim Amla was stumped by Kumar Sangakkara off Rangana Herath.

Faf du Plessis and skipper AB de Villiers then steadied the Protease innings. The duo added 38 runs for the third wicket.

Sri Lanka bowlers then stemmed the flow of run with two quick wickets.

Earlier, Sri Lanka captain Mahela Jayawardene won the toss and elected to bowl against South Africa.

It is going to be a seven-over-a-side game, where two bowlers can bowl two overs and three can bowl one over. There will be two overs of Powerplay.

Sri Lanka have brought in Rangana Herath in place of Ajantha Mendis, who has still not recovered fully from a side strain.

South Africa have also made one change with Faf du Plessis replacing Robin Peterson.

The start of match was delayed due to heavy showers.

Brief Scores: South Africa 78 for 4 in 7 overs (AB de Villiers 30; Nuwan Kulasekara 1 for 9) vs Sri Lanka
