In ICC’s latest Test rankings, Ajinkya Rahane has become India’s highest ranked batsman in Test cricket. He is at 12th position now, his career best. This is after two brilliant centuries struck by the middle-order batsman in the fourth and final Test of the home series against South Africa. His batting helped the team win the series 3-0. Before the final Test, he was at 26th spot in the rankings but a scintillating performance of 127 and an unbeaten 100 in the first and second innings respectively helped him rise above 14 other players. Rahane is now two places above Virat Kohli (rises two places up) and five places above Cheteshwar Pujara (goes two places down).

Ravichandran Ashwin has also moved up the ladder in ICC Test batsmen rankings. Ashwin played a 56-run knock and this had helped him go up five places from 51st to 46th. Talking of his bowling, Ashwin 2-26 and 5-61 helped him get 15 crucial points. He is now at second position just four points below the top-ranked bowler Dale Steyn. Ashwin’s performance with  both bat and ball has helped him eclipse Shakib Al Hasan as the best Test all-rounder. Ravindra Jadeja too moves up in bowler’s rankings to his career best seventh spot.  Umesh Yadav has jumped 13 places to his career best 32nd rank in Test bowlers. This is because of his impressive figures of 2-32 and 3-9. For South Africa, pacer Kyle Abbot has moved up to his career best 43rd position. He is jointly tied with Sri Lanka’s right-arm fast bowler Shaminda Eranga.
