Lead by an all-round performance by Ashleigh Gardner, Australia women beat Pakistan women by 89 runs in their ninth match of the ICC Women’s Championship 2017-21 at Kuala Lumpur to maintain their top spot in the points table.

Gardner scored a blistering 37-ball 62 before leading Australia to 324/7 before claiming 3/53 in her 10 overs as Pakistan managed 235/7, losing the match by 89 runs. This was Pakistan s fifth loss in nine matches and they find themselves in the sixth place.

Opting to bat first, Pakistan got two quick wickets with Sana Mir removing opener Nicole Bolton for 0 followed by the wicket of skipper Meg Lanning for 14 by Anam Amin.

Australia then came back strongly as opener Alyssa Healy upped the ante scoring 97 off 75 and steadied the innings. The wicketkeeper-batswoman combined for a stand of 108 runs with Ellis Perry (32), playing his 100th ODI.

Rachael Haynes (30) and Beth Mooney (38) then consolidated the innings putting on 76 runs for the fifth wicket before the duo got out in the space of four balls. Gardner then took over clobbering six fours and three sixes and with Sophie Molineux added 87 runs for the seventh wicket.

In reply, Pakistan openers Nahida Khan (37) and Muneeba Ali (15) added 49 runs for the opening wicket that was snapped by Gardner in the 10th over. Sidra Ameen made 41 while Nida Dar made 30, but regular strikes meant Australia kept themselves ahead.

Aliya Riaz stuck around for a bit adding 51 off 69 while Mir added 26 off 24 as Pakistan finished with 235/7 in their 50 overs.
