Pakistan’s batter Javeria Khan got knocked on the jaw by a rising delivery from West Indies pacer Shamilia Connell during Women’s T20 World Cup match against West Indies. The top-order batsman wanted to pull the short delivery but ended up misjudging it completely beaten all hands up. Her partner Sidra Ameen straightaway called for medical help to take necessary precautions on the ground. She was later escorted off the field on a stretcher. She was taken to Chennai’s Apollo Hospital for further treatment. The medical staff told the officials that Javeria Khan is out of danger and getting stable but is to be kept under observation for 24 hours. Eventually, Javeria Khan will not be joining her teammates in Delhi due to health issues. This was the first time Pakistani players saw a player get knocked off on the ground. They were involved in a low scoring clash against the Caribbeans chasing a modest total of 104. The game was live until the last ball which ultimately ended in Pakistan losing by 4 runs. They scored a total of 99 for 5 in 20 overs.
The Pakistan team were in shock as the skipper Sana Mir said, “We have never seen a player go down to the ground, the dressing-room was in shock. We had been constantly checking on her health as the match progressed. Considering that, I’m proud of the way the girls fought until the end.” It is highly unlikely that Javeria Khan will be fit to play against the hosts India in Delhi on 19th March in their next group stage match.
