Earlier, Bangladesh skipper Rumana Ahmed won the coin toss and elected to bat first as they were off to a shaky start, with opener Sharmin Sultana falling for an unfortunate duck in the second over. However, it was followed by a steady 51-run stand between Sharmin and Sanjida Islam, before the latter fell for 28 in the 16th over. Meanwhile, Sharmin scored her half-century, and at the score of 121, she fell for 56 in the 31st over. The same over also saw the dismissal of skipper Rumana. 35 runs later, it was Fargana, who was dismissed right after scoring her half-century, as she fell for 51 in the 40th over, while at the score of 160, it was wicketkeeper Nigar Sultana, who fell for mere 14 in the very next over, as Bangladesh went on to post a modest total of 215 in the allotted 50 overs. PNG bowlers in the form of Ravini Oa, Mairi Tom and Sibona Jimmy claimed a couple of wickets each. ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifier 2017: Points table

PNG were off to a poor start as well, as they lost the openers early, with wicketkeeper Brenda Tau falling for a mere single in the second over, followed by Norma Ovasuru for an unfortunate duck, the very next over, as the score read 2 for 2. Following the dismissal of Ruma, partnerships were not easy to come for the PNG batters. Konio Oala, who scored a modest 29, fell at the score of 94 in the 28th over, following which their lower order collapsed like a pile of cards, and were ultimately bowled out for paltry 97, within 32.1 overs, thus handing Bangladesh a massive 118-run win in their opening fixture.

Four Bangladesh bowlers in the form of Jahanara Alam, Panna Ghosh, Salma Khatun, and skipper Rumana claimed 2 wickets each.
