In ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifier Super Six round, Sri Lanka Women lost to South Africa Women by 9 wickets. On the other hand, Ireland Women were thrashed by Pakistan Women by 86 runs. Tournament favourites Indian Eves also enjoyed their outing against Bangladesh Women and emerged victorious by 9 wickets. This was India Women’s sixth win in the tournament and second in the Super Six round. Meanwhile, by winning their respective fixtures on Friday, Pakistan and South Africa Women also earned their first win in the Super Six round and will be eager to maintain the momentum going forward.
Hosts Sri Lanka opted to bat versus South Africa Women at P Sara Oval, Colombo. They never got going and were soon reduced to 97 for 6. Protea bowlers Sune Luus and Dane Van Niekerk wreaked havoc by chipping in with regular wickets and dent Sri Lanka’s progress. No one apart from Nipuni Hanshika (48) looked comfortable in the middle. Inoka Ranaweera and Hasina Perera contributed with cameos but could not do anything significant. South Africa Women were not made to sweat much in the chase as they won by losing only 1 wicket. After her blitz with the ball, Luus excelled with the bat as well with an unbeaten 50 along with Laura Wolvaardt (also 50 not out).
In the sixth game of Super Six round between Pakistan and Ireland Women, Pakistan thrashed Ireland Women by 86 runs. Riding on the back of fine fifties by Javeria Khan and Nahida Khan, Pakistan posted a respectable 271 for 5 in 50 overs. Chasing 272, Irish Women lost plot in the middle overs and succumbed to 185 in 48.5 overs. From Pakistan’s bowling line-up, Sadia Yousuf and Nashra Sandhu shared 2 wickets each whereas Sana Mir and Aiman Anwer shared a wicket each. Pakistan Women’s next tie will be against arch-rivals India Women who have remained unbeaten in the tournament so far.
