In ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifier Super Six round, Sri Lanka Women are playing South Africa Women and Ireland Women are taking on Pakistan Women. Tournament favourites Indian eves are also playing their second game of the ongoing round against Bangladesh Women today. Mithali Raj’s side has tightened the screws over their Asian neighbours in Nondescripts Cricket Club, Colombo. Sri Lanka Women have been restricted to 142 for 9 in 50 overs whereas Pakistan Women have made a stiff score of 271 for 5 versus Ireland Women. South Africa will be looking to make the most of the paltry target in hand to earn their first win of the Super Six round. On the other hand, Ireland have their task cut out to spring a win versus Sana Mir’s side.
Hosts Sri Lanka opted to bat versus South Africa Women in P Sara Oval, Colombo. They lost opener Chamari Atapattu quickly but were moving steadily for a brief period. Nonetheless, they collapsed from 70 for 1 to 97 for 6. Protea bowlers Sune Luus and Dane Van Niekerk wreaked havoc on Sri Lanka Women’s batting line-up by chipping in with regular wickets and dent their progress. No one apart from Nipuni Hanshika looked comfortable in the middle. However, she was stumped for 48 off 96 balls. Inoka Ranaweera and Hasina Perera contributed with cameos but could not do anything significant. South Africa Women will be eyeing their first win in Super Six round when they come out to chase.
In the sixth game of Super Six round between Pakistan and Ireland Women, Pakistan lost in-form opener Ayesha Zafar early but were again shown the way by Javeria Khan and Nahida Khan. Javeria continued after losing Nahida to remain unbeaten on 90 as Nain Abidi led the way in the death overs. Irish Women struggled to take wickets at crucial junctures and hence are chasing 272 for victory. They were thrashed in the last outing against Bangladesh Women by 7 wickets on Wednesday.
Brief Scores:
Sri Lanka Women 142 for 9 in 50 overs (Nipuni Hansika 48, Hasini Perera 26; Sune Luus 3 for 40, Dane Van Neikerk 2 for 14) vs South Africa Women
Pakistan Women 271 for 5 in 50 overs (Nahida Khan 72, Javeria Khan 90*, Nain Abidi 44; Gaby Lewis 2 for 62) vs Ireland Women
