Australian all-rounder Shane Watson said that it would be more satisfying for him to win the ICC World Cup 2015 and it would stand at a higher pedestal compared to the ICC World Cup 2007.
“You always dream about playing in a World Cup, let alone one in your own home – it would be incredible. I’m extremely excited. Hopefully everything pans out form-wise, fitness-wise, so I can be involved, because it is incredible to think that it’s come along in my career time,” Watson said to the official website of Cricket Australia.
Watson added that the achievement would be greater now because he is a senior player in the team. “This campaign I’m going to be hopefully a lot more involved playing-wise, batting- and bowling-wise, and also leadership-wise in and around the group. So it would certainly be a greater achievement [than winning in 2007] I think, because I’m more of a senior player compared to being just a young buck in there just doing my thing with all the legends around me.
“The quality of players we had in that 2007 team is mind-blowing – I was a young guy in there to just provide a little bit of a role,” Watson added.
Watson’s fitness will be critical as he has missed the last two tours of Zimbabwe and UAE due to injuries. Moreover, in the recent past, skipper Michael Clarke confirmed that Watson will be his No. 3 in the limited overs squad. Watson will have to quickly return to playing to international cricket. He featured in the final of the Matador Cup 2014-15. The ICC World Cup 2015 will commence from February 14, 2015 and Australia will play their first match against England in the second match of that day.
