Alex Hales fifty takes England to 110 runs for the loss of three wickets in the run chase against West Indies in the Super Eights match of the World T20 at Pallekele on Thursday.
Earlier, Hales and Jonny Bairstow consolidated England innings after two early blows by Ravi Rampaul.
Rampaul dismissed opener Craig Kieswetter and Luke Wright in back-to-back deliveries in the first over leaving England in disarray.
England are chasing a challenging total of 180 runs. Earlier West Indies has reached a score of 179 runs for the loss of five wickets.
Chris Gayle gave a blistering start to the West Indies innings as Darren Sammy earlier opted to bat first.
The West Indies have yet to win a match, having come off worst against Australia in their Group B opener but recorded a superior run rate to Ireland’s.
