Belligerent half-centuries by Chris Gayle and Marlon Samuels powered West Indies to 191 for the loss of eight wickets in the Group B match against Australia on Saturday.

Earlier, winning the toss, West Indies elected to bat first. Opener Dwayne Smith was bowled by Mitchell Starc in the second over.

However, Gayle paced an aggressive innings as he scored 54 runs off 33 balls.

Middle-order batsman Marlon Samuels later built a 47-run partnership with Dwayne Bravo after Gayle s dismissal.

Samuels scored 50 off 32 balls before being dismissed in the 16th over.
