Australian opener Meg Lanning has etched her name in the Twenty20 history of women’s cricket by smashing the highest individual score in the format in her team’s record-breaking 78-run win over Ireland in the women’s World T20.

Lanning became just the third woman, and the first Australian, to pass three figures in a T20 international, smashing the Irish attack at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on her way to a superb 126 off 65 balls.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, two-time defending champions Australia’s total of 4 for 191 was the highest ever in a women’s WorldT20 match, surpassing New Zealand‘s 5 for 180 against the West Indies in 2010, and Ireland were never in the hunt – finishing at 7 for 113.

The report mentioned that the 78-run margin of victory was also the biggest in women’s World T20 history while Lanning also became the first Australian woman cricketer to pass 1000 T20 career runs.
