The Indian cricket team will play warm-up matches in their build-up to the ICC World T20 2016 at Kolkata and Mumbai. It must be remembered that India will be hosting the ICC World T20 tournament for the very first time, having won the inaugural edition in 2007 in South Africa. India will be facing South Africa in Mumbai and the West Indies in Kolkata, on March 10 and 12 respectively. While the main round of the ICC World T20 2016 begins on March 15, the qualifying round will be played from March 8-13. Eight teams have already qualified for the main round, whereas one team each from two groups of four will qualify for the main tournament. The teams who will be playing in the first round — the qualification round of the ICC World T20 2016 — will be having their warm-up matches from March 3-6, 2016, in Dharamsala and Mohali. The eight teams who already have qualified for the tournament will be playing their warm-up matches — two each — from March 10-15. The afternoon matches in men’s tournament will begin at 15.00 local time, and will end at around 18.10. On the other hand, the matches slated for evenings will be played from 19.30 to 22.40. The two semi-finals and final will be from 19.00 to 22.10.

The ICC World T20 2016 will be played from March 8 to April 3, 2016. Sri Lanka will be the defending champions in this editions, as they had defeated India in the final of the tournament held in Bangladesh in 2014.
