With Zimbabwe and Hong Kong playing the first ICC World Twenty20 (T20) 2016 match, the excitement was building right since the start of innings with Hamilton Masakadza and Vusi Sibanda making an entry. But it was Sibanda’s first half-century that lead Zimbabwe to competitive total of 158 for 8 in 20. In the earlier overs, Hamilton was out for 20 after providing the boost for Zimbabwe with two boundaries and a six from three consecutive balls. Slowly the wickets started crumbling and it was Malcolm Waller who contributed the required support to Sibanda until Sibanda had to leave for 59 missing the opportunity to score 60 being the first Zimbabwe to score the same. Elton Chigumbura gave the required lift to the innings with consecutive sixes in 2nd last over. Until the last over, wickets kept crumbling but Chigumbura went strong and played extremely well. Hong Kong won the toss and elected to field first. Hamilton Masakadza and Vusi Sibanda were the opening batsmen for Zimbabwe and Tanwir Afzal started the attack for Hong Kong. Afzal bowled the perfect over with Hamilton picking just a single run from that over. Haseeb Amjad was the next bowler and once again Hamilton was on strike finally pitching the ball for boundary, six and a boundary in three consecutive balls boosting the confidence for Zimbabwe. When Afzal came to bat again Hamilton went for a boundary again and in the second ball the unexpected run out took place when Hamilton went for a quick single and direct hit on the stumps showing him the way out of the field.

Richmond Mitumbani was the new batsman on crease to join Sibanda, but Hong Kong continued to exceed runs to Zimbabwe. Sooner Mutambani was out grabbed by Afzal. Wickets were falling in quick succession and it was time for Sean Williams to come to play. It looked like Williams could help to build some runs on board until Afzal attacked again bowling out Williams for 12. The much talked about Ryan Campbell came under bowling attack and he got his first with a run out of Sikandar Raza. Malcolm Waller came to support Sibanda on the field. Vusi Sibanda scored his first half-century in style with a six going all the way in just 41 balls with five 4’s and six.
