St. John’s: Johnson Charles was called-up on Saturday to replace Darren Bravo in the West Indies squad for the World Twenty20 after the experienced batsman had become the third player to drop out of the line-up. The 27-year-old Charles is a top order batsman who can also keep wicket. He has played in 23 times in the Twenty20 international format and was a member of the team which won the title in Sri Lanka in 2012. During that tournament he was man-of-the-match against England with a match-winning 84 at Pallekele in the quarter-finals. So far, Darren Bravo, off-spinner Sunil Narine and all-rounder Kieron Pollard have pulled out of the original squad for the 2016 World Twenty20 which will be played in India from March 8 to April 3. Darren Bravo became the third man to withdraw from the West Indies‘ World Twenty20 squad last  Sunday. The 27-year-old, who has only played 12 international Twenty20 matches, said he withdrew to concentrate on the longer forms of the game. “I’m very grateful and humbled for the opportunity to represent the West Indies at the World Cup,” Bravo said in a statement.

Ashley Nurse and Carlos Brathwaite have taken the places of Narine and Pollard. All-rounder Pollard pulled out on Friday due to injury while key off-spinner Narine said he was under-prepared as he serves out an international suspension for a suspect bowling action.
