With the doubts increasing over India’s participation in the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2017, South African cricketers Hashim Amla and David Miller expressed their disappointment over this. The two South African cricketers said that it would be a great loss if India pull out of the tournament as the country holds the largest amount of cricket followers in the world. As per the latest update over India’s participation in the tournament, the BCCI is coming under increasing pressure to name a squad for the impending Champions Trophy. Legends like Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid have joined the stern voices of CoA, expressing desire to see India at the mega event.
After that, Miller stated his opinion to PTI in an exclusive interview by saying, “If they do not participate in the Champions Trophy, it is going to be a big loss because India has a huge cricket followers in the world. Hence, it is not going to be great for stakeholders.” Miller also added that he was not aware of the politics and raised his concern over who will replace India. “Which team will come in as replacement for India, I do not know. Nor do I know what they are going to do,” Miller said.
Amla added: “If India pulls out, it will be a huge loss for Champions Trophy getting exposure. If somebody wants to see an exciting Champions Trophy, then all eight top teams in the world should be participating.”
India are the defending champions of the tournament. They won this tournament last time by beating England by five runs in the final in 2013. Moreover, BCCI missed the deadline for announcing squad, and will hold a special meeting on Sunday to discuss a potential withdrawal from the tournament.
