Mumbai Indians (MI) finally ended their losing streal against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in a style. Batting first MI restricted CSK to a score of 176/5 at the Wankhede Stadium on April 20th. MI chased down the modest target easily with four overs to spare.
MI’s batting coach Kieron Pollard revealed in a interview with the broadcasters that he urged the players not to give him another reason to praise CSK after the match. Pollard shared that head coach Mahela Jayawardene had handed him the opportunity to address the team before the match began.
“If you look at the start of the game, Mahela (Jayawardene) gave me the opportunity to speak to the guys. One of the things I told them was, ‘I’m fed up of telling Chennai well played over the last couple of years.’ The way the guys went out today – very good.” Pollard said on Star Sports.
Pollard said during the interview that the team wanted Suryakumar to play more balls, which is why he was sent to bat at no. 3. The Indian T20 captain had struggled with form in the months leading up to the IPL but appeared to be regaining his rhythm ahead of Sunday’s match.
“Of course, we wanted him (Suryakumar Yadav) at No. 3. We want him to face as many balls as possible. But even in the back end, he’s dangerous. We try to understand the opposition and where he can make the biggest impact. Against Chennai, he reads spin so well – he can manipulate the field, sweep, reverse, and dominate,” said Pollard.
