Pakistan’s left-arm spinner Imad Wasim dethroned South Africa’s leg-spinner Imran Tahir as the No. 1 ranked Twenty20 International (T20I) bowler in the latest ICC rankings released on Monday. This is for the first time that the 28-year-old all-rounder has made it to the top of the list. Tahir, who ruled the roost in the shortest format for a considerable amount of time, has slipped to the third position after claiming only a solitary wicket in the recently-concluded T20I series between South Africa and England, which the latter won 2-1. Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah sits comfortably on the second position in the latest rankings.
On the batting front, Indian skipper Virat Kohli retained his position as the No.1 ranked T20I batsman. Australia’s Aaron Finch New Zealand captain Kane Williamson follow Kohli in the next two positions. South African captain AB de Villiers, who had a brilliant series against England where he averaged 73, is back in the top 20. Jason Roy also reached to his career best position of 25 after a disappointing ICC Champions Trophy 2017 campaign with England, which saw him getting dropped for the semi-final.
As far as the all-rounders are concerned, there is no change in the top three rankings as Bangladesh’s star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan continues to top the list. He is followed by Glenn Maxwell of Australia and Afghanistan’s Mohammad Nabi.
