Imran Tahir, South African leg-break bowler has reached the 100-wicket milestone in One-Day Internationals (ODIs). He did this in 58 matches, which is the fastest by a South African. It was in the sixth game of the Tri-Nation series, which he played against West Indies. He took seven wickets in the match taking South Africa to a 139-run victory. It was also his best bowling performance in one-dayers. He scalped those many wickets in nine overs giving only 45 runs. Tahir has a good economy rate of 4.67 in ODIs, and his average is a brilliant 22.75. He picks up a wicket on his every 29.29th ball on an average. He has picked five wickets twice in his ODI career. Tahir surpassed the record of Morne Morkel as the fastest South African to 100 ODI wickets in terms of matches played. “I’m really grateful for how things worked out for me today,” said a delighted Tahir. “It was a fantastic effort by the entire team and I’m just delighted to have played a part.” Earlier, Hashim Amla’s 23rd ODI hundred highlighted a domineering batting effort from the Proteas after they were put in by home captain Jason Holder.They went on to post 343. Tahir and Tabraiz Shami (two for 41) then extinguished the West Indian reply after a bright opening start, Tahir’s record harvest including three in one over as the hosts were dismissed for 204 off 38 overs. Tahir and Shamsi, in just his second match, effected the breakthrough after the rousing start of 69 in less than ten overs by openers Johnson Charles (49) and Andre Fletcher (21).
