After almost two sessions and forty-one overs, India’s captain Rohit Sharma realised that Kuldeep Yadav was in the starting eleven for the fourth Test match against England in Ranchi. Up until that point, the left-arm wrist spinner was just a fielder trying to keep his team’s valuable runs intact. It is a little challenging to remove the ball off the hands of spinners like Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, who rank among the top six bowlers in home Tests (according to averages). During the previous domestic season, Rohit had given his consent
Kuldeep, the second-most economical bowler on show, bowled just 10 overs out of India’s 90 on the first day of the fourth Test. That is three less than the most costly bowler of the day in India, Mohammed Siraj. Despite failing to take a wicket, Kuldeep’s line play was excellent.
