India finished Day One of the first of the three-day warm-up games against Sri Lanka Board President XI in a good position. India were in trouble at tea when they were trying to comeback after having once lost four wickets for just the 25 runs to be 133 for the loss of four wickets after lunch. But both Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara added runs together to steady India and give the total some respectability. Both of them shared a brilliant stand of 134 runs before Jeffrey Vandersay struck to dismiss Pujara for 42. Rahane though scored his fifty and kept scoring at a good click to score a fine century as India finished the day at a score of 314 for six at the end of 80 overs. India will be disappointed with the way their middle order fared today. There was a lot of talk about who should play at number three and both Rohit Sharma and the captain who backed him to play at that position failed. India will hope both of them get a chance to spend sometime in the middle later in the game. Pujara chipped in with a vital 42 to make a claim. India will be interested to see how their bowlers bowl tomorrow.
For Sri Lanka, K Rajitha was the pick of the bowlers. He picked up three wickets and all of those were crucial ones. Indians will want to emulate their success on Day Two as they get bowling. Dhawan earlier brought up his 27th First-Class half-century. He too like KL Rahul started very slowly but got into his groove as he spent more time in the middle. There was some drama too when Rahul seemed to have missed one there was a loud appeal for a caught behind only for the umpires to agree with the batsman and not give it out. Rahul though departed soon after getting out for 44, miscuing his pull shot. Read: India vs Sri Lanka 2015: India’s tour game an early indicator of things to come
