For the upcoming quadrangular series Down Under, India A is scheduled to undergo Strength and Conditioning camp at National Cricket Academy (NCA), Bengaluru, under the guidance of coach Rahul Dravid, from July 12 to 17, 2016. This 6-day program will be conducted by NCA trainer Rajinikant along with team physiotherapist Yogesh Parmar, NCA chief therapist Andrew Leipus and team trainer Anand Date. The purpose of the camp is to help Naman Ojha-led 16-player squad train for the 50-over series that features South Africa A, Australia A and CA’s national performance squad, which will commence from August 13 until September 18. The matches will be hosted in Townsville and Mackay. Read – Rahul Dravid: IPL has been an educative process for me
In September, India will also play two four-day games against Australia A in Brisbane. However, there were 10 changes in the squad, with Unmukt Chand — who led the team to victory last September against Bangladesh — was dropped from the squad. It came as a surprise as he had plundered 219, 101 and 110 in three consecutive innings Down Under in 2014.
Shreyas Iyer, on the other hand, will go for his first foreign tour. He amassed 1,414 runs in the previous Ranji Season but failed to emulate his excellent performance Indian Premier League (IPL) 2016. Read – Virat Kohli: Humanly impossible to match up to Sachin Tendulkar’s numbers
The squad features nine members from the Indian team that toured Zimbabwe last month. This shows that the selectors want to show faith in India’s second-tier team and expose them to the pressure of playing on foreign soil.
Squad: Naman Ojha (c), Faiz Fazal, Akhil Herwadkar, Shreyas Iyer, Karun Nair, Manish Pandey, Kedar Jadhav, Vijay Shankar, Akshar Patel, Jayant Yadav, Dhawal Kulkarni, Jaydev Unadkat, Barinder Sran, Varun Aaron, Shahbaz Nadeem, Sanju Samson
