The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Thursday announced the venues for the five-Test series between India and England, later this year. England will be touring India for a long tour, which will consist of 5 Tests, 3 ODIs and 3 T20 Internationals. India will be playing as many as 13 Tests at home in their cricketing season, and 5 are against England. The other Tests will be against Australia, New Zealand and Bangladesh. India will also be touring the West Indies for a four-Test series, which will be played in July-August 2016. England’s tour of India 2016-17 will begin in November 2016, and will go on till February 2017. India and England last clashed in a five-match Test series in 2014 in England, in a series in which India were drubbed 1-3 by their hosts. ALSO READ: Rajkot in fray to host first ever Test match
The five Tests between India and England will be played at Mohali, Rajkot, Mumbai, Visakhapatnam and Chennai. While the venues were announced for the India versus England 2016 series, the dates and schedule for the same will be announced in time to come.
It was earlier expected that India and England will be playing 5 ODIs and one-off T20I, which has now been revised two 3 matches each in the shorter formats.
In a press release, the BCCI president Anurag Thakur said, “I welcome the new Test venues hosting this prestigious format of cricket and their arrival will take Test match cricket, to every corner of the country. We are equally excited about the domestic season as we will be playing the Duleep Trophy with the pink ball under lights and take this opportunity to welcome Chhattisgarh, who will play Ranji Trophy for the first time.”
“A combined team of Affiliate & Associate states will participate in the junior age group tournaments, which will provide the much needed opportunity to the emerging players from these areas. This further reaffirms our commitment to spread the game by providing the appropriate platforms to our next generation cricketer,” he added.
