Heavy overnight rain followed by a wet outfield washed out the entire third day’s play between India Blue and India Green in the ongoing Duleep Trophy 2019 at Just Cricket Academy Ground in Bengaluru on Monday.

This is a second straight washout after no play was possible on Day 2 as well.

The start was delayed due to wet outfield and the condition didn’t improve through the day before the play was called off without a ball being bowled. A major portion of the four-day fixture has been affected by inclement weather meaning only 49 overs have been possible across three days.

On Saturday, India Green captain Faiz Fazal won the toss and opted to field with the play only getting underway in the second session, again due to unfavourable conditions.

Bengal pacer Ishan Porel was the star of the rain-affected day, taking three wickets in his 12 overs including that of India Blue captain and his former India U-19 world cup winning teammate Shubman Gill (6).

Tanveer-Ul-Haq had gotten rid of India Blue opener Snell Patel (5) cheaply before Porel landed the big blow in Gill. The other opener, Ruturaj Gaikwad, too fell to Tanveer after having got the start, making 30 off 63.

Anmolpreet Singh (14), Ricky Bhui (2) and Jalaj Saxena (19) were also sent back cheaply as India Blue finished the day on 112/6 in 49 overs. Ankit Bawne was resisting with an unbeaten 21 off 103 and had Saurabh Kumar (2*) for company.

In all likelihood, the fixture is heading for a draw with just a day left in the contest and not even one innings has been completed.

India Blue will next face India Red KSCA Cricket Ground in Alur in the second match of the competition from August 23. In the third match, India Green face India Red at the same venue before the action moves to M.Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru for the final.

Brief Scores: India Blue 112/6 (Ruturaj Gaikwad 30, Ankit Bawne 21*; Ishan Porel 3/26, Tanveer Ul-Haq 2/36) vs India Green
