A strong India Cements side upset the calculations of hosts D Y Patil ‘A’ team by surging to a six-wicket victory to clinch the title in the Rs 12-lakh prize money Twenty20 championship in Navi Mumbai.
The decision to bat first backfired for the hosts as their batsmen failed to come to terms with some accurate bowling from India Cements’ S Suresh, Suresh Kumar and P Amarnath and were restricted to 155 for 8 from their 20 overs.
The reply by Indian Cements was not too impressive to begin with, as they lost opener B Arun Karthik for 7 and then the next three batsmen with only 70 on board.
However, in form players Dinesh Karthik (46 in 35 balls) and Hemang Badani (42 in 32 balls) put on an unbeaten partnership of 88 runs for the fifth wicket to see their team through with six wickets and two overs to spare.
Badani was adjudged the ‘Man of the Series’, while the host team’s Swapnil Aasnodkar the ‘Best Batsman’.
The ‘Best Bowler’ was Usman Malvi of Tata Sports Club, while the ‘Best Fielder’ honours went to Arun Kartik of India Cements.(PTI)
