The Indian pacers have been grabbing limelight since the beginning of ICC Under-19 World Cup 2018. Kamlesh Nagarkoti, one of India’s pace trio, put up a stellar show in the final of the tournament against Australia. Not only with the ball, but Nagarkoti was active on field, saving the ball from reaching the boundary line.
Nagarkoti’s contribution started with a good catch at cover to get the in-form Jack Edwards out for 28. After Ishan Porel’s outing with the new ball that provided India with a couple of wickets, Nagarkoti started off with a successful over. Nagarkoti came in with change of length and got an edge off Australia skipper Jason Sangha’s bat.
His second wicket was that of Zak Evans. Nagarkoti gave no scope to the lower-order batsman, bowling a yorker and piercing through the wide gap between bat and pad to get him bowled. However, apart from the bowling, Nagarkoti’s fielding remained a classic show, with athletic stops now and then.
The other two pacers, Porel and Shivam Mavi, impressed with their performance in the final. Porel did not let the Australian top order settle. He got rid of Max Bryant who was off to an aggressive start for a 12-ball 14. Bryant, who hammered a short ball, was caught at cover. Porel backed this up with the wicket of Edwards to shift momentum in favour of India.
Mavi could not put up any extraordinary show but tasted late success. However, the wicket was controversial. Though the umpire raised finger for a caught-behind appeal, there was confusion regarding there being an edge. Mavi’s wicket ended Australia’s innings with 216 on the board.
